~THE OWL'S NEST~
There's an owl nesting in that old tree,
nearly invisible to you and me.
In early morn and late evening
She'll be there to hear, but never to see.
She sleeps by day and works by the night.
Silent wings take her on her late-night flight.
She hunts all night long for her and her young.
If you could watch her, you'd say, "What a sight!"
Been here for ages in that same nest.
Longer than you've lived, of this I don't jest.
And before her, lived her old mother.
You see, right up there, where that limb does crest.
They say this tree is ninety years old.
And the nest's been there always, so I'm told.
Know for a fact, it's fifty-nine years.
From the day life took me into it's fold.
