~Since We Were Together~

All of the Winters I have seen
since the one we were together,
more than can count on hands and feet.
Hundred-three changes of weather.

The dreams were there and deep passion,
but happiness faded away.
To sep'rate ways in our fashion
farther apart did our hearts stray.

Then only dreams and memory
were left for me to have and hold.
Only now I tell the story;
how I prayed and wept in the cold.

The emptiness inside my heart
overwhelming body and mind.
The result of being apart
from the greatest love I could find.

She visits in my dreams at night,
but something always blocks the way.
I toss and turn and quake with fright.
For sins of the past I must pay.

Now one more Winter lies ahead,
then a Spring with hope for a chance.
I'll dream and pray until I'm dead
or until again we can dance.
