From the very first time I saw her
I knew that she was the one
nineteen sixties dissension and fear
yet we had nothing but fun

She being so young and beautiful
as she walked across the park
to love her I felt so dutiful
for her I would toe the mark

Blonde hair white blouse and blue denim shorts
that blouse with little flowers
I'd follow her to all the world's ports
and gaze on her for hours

She came along to light up my life
my world was in a shadow
going nowhere alone torn by strife
upstream without a paddle

Sun of her hair and sky of her eyes
bathed me in warmth and rapture
joyful hellos and lengthy goodbyes
she soon my heart did capture

We loved like there was no tomorrow
we were ne'er under the gun
years later now and I've no sorrow
I still know she was the one
