The light green areas are "avalanche tracks". When the ice
and snow becomes heavy enough for gravity to take over, it
slides down the mountain and takes everything with it.
These trees are growing from rock. The side of this mountain
is nearly verticle. A seed trapped in a tiny crevice becomes a
tree. I saw this in several other locations on my trek.
