~FOUR CORNERS MONUMENT~

I have now stood in four states at one time. And I'm sure that millions of visitors to the Four Corners Monument have done so before me. But it was a kick to do it. Actually, the jurisdiction at the monument belongs to the Navajo Nation.
I arrived just after the sunrise on the Arizona page. I had to wait for them to open the gate, and I was second to enter the Monument that day. There were no crowds and the vendors hadn't even opened their shops by the time I left. As my great adventure in the Santa Fe National Forest was about to begin.

The display at the monument contains the flags of the United States, the four states joined there, and that of the Navajo Nation. This little plate on the right, which is about ten inches in diameter, divides the four states. All the photos below were taken from this plate.

UTAH

Rugged Utah

COLORADO

Mountainous Colorado

NEW MEXICO

Rocky New Mexico

ARIZONA

Canyon filled Arizona
The people of 50 states and the world meet here in Freedom, under God.

I'm standing with both feet firmly planted in four states
here, facing along the New Mexico/Colorado border
to the east and the rising sun. The long shadows tell
it's still very early in the morning.
