~SACKETS HARBOR, NY~

During the Revolutionary War, the British Army tried to destroy US Navy ships docked in Sackets Harbor. They came on foot, landing from Lake Ontario, and were defeated on a wooded knoll overlooking the harbor. This was an important battle which allowed the US Navy to gain superiority. Sackets Harbor is a quaint old town on the east end of Lake Ontario.
