~The Canyon and Waterfalls~

Established on March 1, 1872, Yellowstone National Park is the first and oldest national park in the world.
Preserved within Yellowstone are Old Faithful Geyser and some 10,000 hot springs and geysers, the majority of the planet's total. These geothermal wonders are evidence of one of the world's largest active volcanoes.
An outstanding mountain wildland with clean water and air, Yellowstone is home of the grizzly bear and wolf, and free-ranging herds of bison and elk. It is the core of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, one of the largest intact temperate zone ecosystems remaining on the planet.
Yellowstone was declared a World Heritage Site on September 8, 1978. (Source: USNPS)
You can take all the photographs you want, but the camera can never see what the eye sees. The following photos don't begin to tell the story of the Yellowstone. Enjoy.

Deep in the canyon the Yellowstone River

Here you can see the geysers and hot springs at work on the

The canyon eventually gives way to the kinder and gentler
Yellowstone River Valley.

And softly serene

The sign said the trail to visit the Tower Falls was .6 miles. What it didn't say is it was .6 miles straight down into the canyon, three miles back and forth and SIX MILES back up. I was very tired when I got back to my car. Yellowstone is a walking park. Very few of the sites can be viewed fron the roadway. And I think that a good thing as it gives the wilderness a more natural look.
