I found a Dove one day
and I cherished her
I brought her food
to curb her hunger
and gave her water
to quench her thirst
I bathed her to heal
her broken legs
where the pain was worst
I hung pretty things
for color in her home
I tied shiny ribbons and
ornaments on her nest
so she would not feel lonely
or depressed
I gave her comfort
and sang to her that
she may learn the song
And she sang to me
a song so beautiful
she gave me all
a Dove can give
Today I set her free
as every Dove should be
I saw her fly away
a spirit free again
on this sunny day
for a Dove should not be caged
a Dove should be with doves
and when she soars on high
with her new love together
I will smile for them
but if she should return to me
I will cherish her forever.
