~Ahh, Spring~

High up in the Rockies
The air warms with the
Return of the sun
To the north
Once-dry streams
Filled with the products
Of melting glaciers
Sending those new waters
Into nearly countless
Rivers that feed
The Big Muddy
Already full with the
Melting snows
Of the Plaines
And the Missouri
In turn
Pours its wealth
Into the smaller Mississippi
And Old Man River
Strains under the assault
And flows outside itself
And onto the tracks
That carry the train
They call
The City of New Orleans
On into the Gulf
Of Mexico,
Thirsty
It can refuse
nothing.

And yet more rains come.
Ahh, spring.

Dedicated to those many friends living in those areas that were flooded this spring of 2008.

Music is "Bring on the Rain"
